Things I Didn’t Know
So we were just out about today and stopped in to see my mom at work while getting some groceries. While there we found out the following.
Liam is going to be the ring bearer for my sister’s wedding. This is the first we’ve heard of it. I mean we’re certainly okay with it, but it would have been nice to know about this from my sister.
I am looking good. I feel awful, tired and think I’m fat, but it’s nice to know I’m not looking that way.
I’m having a girl. My mom has declared it so. I almost feel like the poor thing is gonna rearrange its DNA just to make it so. LOL Actually I just think she wants a granddaughter, but we’ll know soon enough.

Spammilicious today.
I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately and last night it got me thinking. TV women aren’t my only heroes, there are some very strong women in books who I admire, so here is my list.
Eve Dallas: The In Death Series by Nora Roberts (writing as JD Robb)- Eve, how to describe Eve? She’s gone from a nameless abandoned child to a no nonsense cop in New York. She made herself, got to where she is with her intelligence and sheer force of will. Over the course of the books she grows thanks to her best friend Mavis, her assistant Peabody and her eventual lover, the enigmatic Roarke. But she never loses what makes her strong.
Lessa: The Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey- Lessa should have been royalty, should have been an heiress, but fate decided otherwise. She becomes a dragonrider and finds her place there with her queen Ramoth. She helps bring about change on Pern, strengthening the waning dragonrider fleet. She does this by solving a riddle and traveling through time to bring from the past help for the present. Lessa is a force to be reckoned with.
VI Warshowski: from self titled series of books by Sara Paretsky and Kinsey Milhone: The Alphabet Series by Sue Grafton- I’m putting these two together because they share the job of Private Investigator, but they also have their differences. Kinsey was a cop before going the PI route. VI was a lawyer with the Public Defender’s office. Kinsey’s been twice divorced and currently suffers from a lack of love life. VI has a lover who is in war torn Iraq right now, but I don’t think she’s ever tied the knot. But both these women hold strong, kick ass and ask questions later. They both have strong ties to their close friends and neighbors. And whether it’s investigating murder on the beaches of California (Kinsey) or fraud in the business district of Chicago (VI) both women get the job done.
Skye O’Malley: the O’Malley series by Bertrice Small- Who says women in romances can’t be strong? Skye has to be strong in a time when women were expected to stay home and be wives and mothers. She takes control of her family until her younger brother can be the leader of her clan. She outlives six husbands. She raises a family of children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren to rival Queen Victoria’s. She manages a shipping company. And she spars with the great Queen Elizabeth herself. Skye is anything but a typical romance heroine.

Okay, so you know how there’s the practice of taking headphones and placing them on your pregnant belly and playing classical music or heck any kind of music, so your baby can hear it?
I had a thought last night. If (and this is a big if) I had the money, I’d download some of my favorite shows from iTunes, load them up on the iPod and play them to the baby. Fangirl/fanboy in progress.

Now I love Barry, he’s a generally friendly cat, but he’s always been Brad’s cat. Barry has always sought out Brad for petting and loving and pretty much everything else. On occasion he’d come to me to sit in my lap but not often.
That’s been changing. Barry has been coming over to me more often. He butts his head against my hand when I’m typing or just surfing. He sniffs me a lot and wants to sit on my lap. He’s been doing this for a couple of months now, even before I got the positive pregnancy test.
I wonder if he knew before I did? Can he tell that I’m different? I’m grooving on all the attention, even if it plays havoc with my allergies.
Just thoughts I’d had, nothing more.

I think I am going to really like seeing the midwives at this place. The one today was very friendly and knowledgeable. I got to hear the heartbeart today. It was still awe inspiring. *G* I have an ulrasound scheduled for next week so fingers crossed that we can see if it’s a boy or girl! Also get all the bloodwork done then too, so yay.

Meme! Five Fictional Women who are My Heroes
I love this meme!
Buffy Summers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: She may not have been the Council’s ideal, but she got the job done and better than many others did. She strove to have both the destiny she didn’t ask for and the normal life she craved. Watching her face real monsters made all my metaphorical ones pale in comparison.
Dana Scully, The X-Files: The fact that she passed on a medical career to serve her country is a big factor here, but she’s also cool under pressure, logical, steadfast and loyal. Her love for her work showed as did her trust in her partner no matter what. She faced death with a grace and dignity I aspire to.
Teyla Emmagan, Stargate Atlantis: The outsider who joins the fight. The stranger no one trusts until they have to. She’s become an integral part of the team and takes no guff from anyone, even her friends. She is the heart of the city. Plus, she showed that pregnant women can still kick ass.
Janet Fraiser, Stargate SG-1: The tough no nonsense base doctor who even had rugged Generals quaking in their boots. But she was also kind and compassionate. She fought alien viruses with little or no help, raised an alien child as her own, went out into the field to help an injured man who couldn’t be moved. She deserved better.
Yay
I finally found a place close, as in right here in town, that take my insurance. I have an appointment tomorrow morning to see a midwife.
American Idol: Season Seven Finale

So, we’re down to the David’s. If you’ve been reading my posts you know which one I favor. So, let’s get to the singing!
First songs chosen by Clive Davis.
Cook: “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”, Damn, he’s got it and if he’s not snatched up for a record deal there is something wrong in this world.
Archuleta: “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me”, sitting on the stairs, lame. But I must say that he does give this song his all and is fairly respectable with it.
Songwriting songs.
Cook: “Dream Big” WOW. Love, love, love, love it. Simon obviously doesn’t which makes me wonder why he came out and supported Cook earlier.
Archuleta: “In This Moment”, of course it’s a ballad. Why do all these songs have inspirational icky lyrics? Why are the judges all for him? Is this more manipulation and set up on their part?
Contestant’s Choice
Cook: “The World I Know”, David and an accoustic guitar, very very nice. I half wish he’d stuck with that, but the rocking out parts were good too. I love his defense for choosing this song. He’s right, it’s about progression, not regression.
Archuleta: “Imagine”, it was dreadful the first time he did this way back at the beginning and it’s even more so now. THERE ARE NO SWEEPING CRESCENDO’S IN “IMAGINE”. That was not John Lennon’s “Imagine”.
I have never voted before, but I am sooooooo going to vote today. I will not let the producers get away with trying to manipulate this. I will NOT let Archeluta be the American Idol if I can help it.
House: Wilson’s Heart

As soon as House started crying I lost it. That was a much more satisfying, if heart wrenching, finale than Bones. Much applause to Hugh and Robert for keeping the emotions running high.
I’m kind of glad summer is here. My poor heart couldn’t take much more! I just need to get through NCIS, Reaper and Idol and then I’m golden for a while.
