The State Of Me

I should be writing. Really. I have something due on the 8th. I have the idea for it. But I just can’t get motivated to write it for some reason. Bad me.

Instead I’ve spent the last two days reading X-files Mulder/Scully fic. *sigh* And some Iron Man Tony/Pepper for variety.

In in yay news I have my greedy little hands on Series one of the new Dr. Who. I put it (and series two and three) on reserve at the library back in February and it finally made its way to me. Now granted I’ve seen series one twice already thanks to Netflix view instantly, but now I can watch it in surround sound. And all the behind the scenes stuff too. And the library’s website tells me that series two is in transit, so double yay! Now if only they’d get me the first season of Farscape (which I’ve had on reserve since last October).

I’m remembering now why I hated being pregnant in the summer with Liam. It’s hot and sweaty and just generally uncomfortable. Thank god for central air. And when did I become less bendy? I mean I know baby belly and getting older have something to do with it, but I distinctly remember a time when I could touch my toes without a second thought (or without becoming winded). And for about a day there Sarah decided to sit herself on my right side, just below my ribs. It was decidely uncomfortable, not just to lay down on that side, but to sit. And I have 20 more weeks to go.

I keep trying to remember to take a picture of the baby belly, but neither of us can remember where the heck the digital camera is. Once it is found I promise there will be pictures.

Random Liam hugs are awesome.

It’s pretty much a foregone conclusion that Dragon*Con is out of the question this year. Which is a shame cause the guest list is to die for. Fia is not going either. So we’ll mope together. Though I did invite her down here to spend time with us. (And no, it has nothing to do with the fact I need more incentive to clean out the third bedroom/office/nursery). But it would be awesomesauce to have her here so she could meet Liam and Brad and my family (I talk about her often enough) and just generally fangirl.

That’s about all for now.

X-Files Love (Again)

We’re into season 5 in our rewatching and damn if I couldn’t love Mulder and Scully more. Watching Mulder as he does everything in his power to save Scully as she lays dying from cancer. Watching Scully face death with a grace and dignity everyone should aspire too.

Both actors are at the top of their game and it’s not surprising Gillian won an Emmy and both of them won Golden Globes.

Scully singing ‘Joy to the World’ (the rock song) to an injured Mulder in the middle of a forest will never not be awesome. Also Mulder holding out his hand to Scully to dance to “Walking in Memphis” is love.

I have never felt more like writing fic than I do now and it’s kind of scary. The X-Files fandom (and Mulder and Scully shippers in particular) can be quite scary and I try to stay away from scary and/or insane fandoms.

A Tale of Two Geniuses

Today is a day of mourning and of celebration.

We mourn the passing of the legendary comedian and word smith, George Carlin. He’s most famously known for his routine on the seven words you can’t say on television (only three or four of which are still majorly taboo). Younger fans may know him from his roles in the Bill and Ted movies or from Kevin Smith’s many movies.  I got the chance to see him live in concert a few years ago. Although we were quite a ways from the stage, I’ll never forget it.  The world is a lesser place without you in it, George.

But we also celebrate the birthday of another word smith and world builder, Joss Whedon. The man who brought us Buffy, Angel and Firefly and who is preparing to bring us Dollhouse. How we love to love (and to hate sometimes) the man who brings us kick ass female characters. Brad and I will be celebrating by going to a charity screening of Serenity tonight, I’m sure all you Whedonites out there will find other ways to celebrate. Happy Birthday, Joss.

Surprise FORD!!!!! (John has never forgiven himself for leaving Ford behind, good foreshadowing for what’s to come.)

Rodney worried for John. John almost giving into his feelings. Ronon ignoring John. Poor Lorne having to deal with Rodney.

Duff beer! Simpsons reference FTW.

I do like that Carter and Caldwell are calling each other Sam and Stephen. I could buy them as a couple because a) it means no Sam/Jack and b) it makes Rodney uncomfortable.

I wanna know what Jennifer gave John so he’s not all wobbly on his legs.

Rodney delivering Teyla’s baby? OMG LOVE!!!!! There was nothing about that scene I didn’t love. (Though I must gripe a tad about them not dealing with the afterbirth, yes it’s gross, but it’s a part of it too.)

Okay, what was with not!zombie Kanann? Last time we saw him, he barely functioned, now he’s walking and talking and interacting with Teyla. Consistency writers, have some plz.

John plus baby equals Katy puddle of goo! (seriously my uterus did flips. Which is hard with a baby in there and such.)

Rodney going to go see Teyla with flowers? Love

That was a total Kaylee moment when Jennifer told John she was gonna mess with his insides.

Speaking of consistency, I thought Teyla’s father was Tegan? Doesn’t she introduce herself to Sumner and John in “Rising” as Teyla Emmagen, daugher of Tegan? If not, then I need to change some things in my bigbang story.

Poor Sam. I mean, I know Amanda decided to leave, so they kinda had to take command away from Sam, but still, it was a sad moment for her when Woolsey told her.

List Of Lists

I love lists. Lists of top tens, top 100s, etc. They spark debate which is always fun. Well, have I got some lists for everyone to debate about.

Entertainment Weekly has done an EW 1000. They made lists of what they are calling ‘New Classics’; the best in movies, tv, books, etc for the past 25 years. It was interesting to read some of these lists and figure out how many of these things I’ve seen/read/listened too and how many are new to me that I might check out. Joss’ works are there a few times as are other fan favorites. For the full story, here is the home page for EW’s 1000.

I Love John Scalzi

I really, really do. He’s not only a great science fiction author but he has a great mind. Smart is sexy.

In recent posts he’s been tackling the debate going on in California regarding gay marriages (he’s all for them). The dialog he produces among the readers of his blog is just as thought provoking, so read the comments and maybe make your own.

The posts can be found here and here.
