Sad, sad news. Dom DeLuise passed away, he was 75. Heaven is a better place now, because as Fia and I said once, anything is better with More DeLuise. We’ll miss you Dom.

King has said of Twilight author, Stephanie Meyer “She’s not very good.” He also said Meyer “can’t write worth a darn.”
Oh, Stephen, never change. <3

Sad news, Majel Barrett Roddenbery has died at age 76. I had no idea she’d been sick. Majel was instrumental in keeping Gene’s vision of the Star Trek universe alive. She had a role in the original series as Nurse Christine Chapel and later on played Deanna Troi’s mother Lwaxanna in both Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. She was also the voice of the Enterprise computer throughout Next Generation and all of the movies, including the upcoming J J Abrams incarnation. She will be missed.

In the last day or so, all the big entertainment blogs have been posting little tidbits about how William Shatner, aka, Star Trek’s Captain Kirk is upset that he wasn’t invited to fellow Trek alum George Takei’s wedding.
Boo hoo.
George has responded by saying Shatner was issued an invitation but never responded. Either way, I don’t think it matters. It was George’s wedding and both he and his partner Brad made the decisions as to who got to come and who stayed home. So even if Shatner didn’t get invited he should suck it up and just wish George and Brad the best instead of making a huge fuss about it. You’re almost 80 years old man, act like it.

DISCLAIMER: I want to start this post off by stating for the record that I have never read, not do I intend to read, the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyers. Everything I know about the series comes from hearsay, rumor, the internet and most of all Stoney321’s cracktastic reviews of the books, found here. Read more

Today is a day of mourning and of celebration.
We mourn the passing of the legendary comedian and word smith, George Carlin. He’s most famously known for his routine on the seven words you can’t say on television (only three or four of which are still majorly taboo). Younger fans may know him from his roles in the Bill and Ted movies or from Kevin Smith’s many movies. I got the chance to see him live in concert a few years ago. Although we were quite a ways from the stage, I’ll never forget it. The world is a lesser place without you in it, George.
But we also celebrate the birthday of another word smith and world builder, Joss Whedon. The man who brought us Buffy, Angel and Firefly and who is preparing to bring us Dollhouse. How we love to love (and to hate sometimes) the man who brings us kick ass female characters. Brad and I will be celebrating by going to a charity screening of Serenity tonight, I’m sure all you Whedonites out there will find other ways to celebrate. Happy Birthday, Joss.

I love lists. Lists of top tens, top 100s, etc. They spark debate which is always fun. Well, have I got some lists for everyone to debate about.
Entertainment Weekly has done an EW 1000. They made lists of what they are calling ‘New Classics’; the best in movies, tv, books, etc for the past 25 years. It was interesting to read some of these lists and figure out how many of these things I’ve seen/read/listened too and how many are new to me that I might check out. Joss’ works are there a few times as are other fan favorites. For the full story, here is the home page for EW’s 1000.

Today we mourn the passing of two true individuals.
Bo Diddley-so cool he even has a beat named after him. He was a huge influence on early rock and will forever be a staple of rhythm and blues.
Yves Saint Larent-one of the last great designers of his age. We have him to thank for the woman’s tuxedo suit. He was the first designer to use black models in his runway shows. And I love this quote from him “I have often said that I wish I had invented blue jeans: the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity – all I hope for in my clothes.”
May the afterlife be a hell of lot more stylish and certainly more rocking with their passing.
