It’s Happened

Sarah is definitely growing up. She’s crawling.

It’s not the traditional crawling, but it counts. She puts her arms out and then pulls herself forward. I told my mom this and she called it the Army crawl, apparently I did this as well, so Sarah comes by it naturally. She’s also babbling with consanants. It’s all ‘bbbbbbb’, ‘ffffffff’ or ‘dddddd’, I’m waiting for ‘mmmmmmm’.

She’s into everything, smiles at all of us, especially her daddy and brother. She can get to sitting position from laying down flat and sits by herself for about 30 seconds. She loves to bounce. Has only met one food she didn’t like, asparagus.

Since she’s crawling, that means we need to keep a constant eye on her and go find some baby gates. *sigh* I wish she could have stayed small just a little longer.

Me (And Other Topics)

Yeah, I’m still alive. Still looking for a job. I want to know why I can’t get paid to be a full time mom. That’s work. *sigh*

I’ve doing some writing, lots of things going on in my head. I just wish my brain would decide to write in present or past tense, not switch between the two (sometimes in the same damned sentence). I went to the dentist on the 3rd. Got my teeth cleaned. Learned I have two cavities, but the dentist said they were in hard to reach places so I don’t feel too bad. I get to have those filled on the 25th. Right after that, same day, I get my wisdom teeth pulled. FUN.

Liam is out of school for the moment. He’s going to summer school but that doesn’t start until the end of July. He’s still here, so that’s something. Sarah is a babbling machine, she’s saying all these consonants, it’s just a joy to listen to her. I could do without the random screaming though. She really is this close to crawling. She’ll roll onto her tummy, get up on her hands and knees, then rock back and forth. It’s like she knows she supposed to move but her brain hasn’t quite put everything together yet.

Watched the Tony’s last night solely because of NPH, but was what he did really “hosting”? He was on camera for like 20-25 minutes at most. At least I got to hear him sing at the end. The sound was screwy all night, which also detracted from the enjoyment. The best bits for me; Frank Langella, the gal from West Side Story who was crying, the Billy Elliot boys.

Finally, confession. I’ve been spending way too much time over at ontd_ai. I now have a very impressive collection of pictures and gifs.

How To Piss Me Off

Telemarketers, the bane of telephones everywhere. I understand they’re only doing their jobs, but I dislike them with a passion.

Now I try to be as polite as possible when dealing with them. I tell them “No Thank You” and ask them to take our name off their list. The Do Not Call List has helped some. But still some persist and that gets me bitchy.  And I know that there’s a law out there saying when they’re allowed to call. Isn’t the latest 8pm or has it changed?

I ask because we had late calls the last two days. Wednesday night one called just after nine and I said don’t call, it was after 9, etc and hung up. Well last night was worse. Woman called right after nine. I said after nine, mentioned the law, said not to call this late and hung up. Less than two minutes later, she calls back. This time I really get angry. I tell her if she calls again I’ll be asking for her supervisor, mention the law again and hang up. Then FIVE minutes later another call. I tell myself I’ll go nuclear if it’s the same woman. It’s a guy this time. I mention the law and the time and he goes “Well it’s 6 where I am” and I tell him to learn time zones, hanging up.

If I get another call tonight, I’m immediately asking for their name and to talk to a supervisor.

Making Money

I’m not sure if I’ve talked a lot about this anywhere, but in what little spare time I have that isn’t spent writing fic (when the muse cooperates), I cross-stitch. It’s something that I’d been a little interested in for a while and I taught myself to do it when Liam was small. Since then I’ve made several things for my family that I’ve given as gifts. More often than not I just did the kit/pattern because it interested me. (I have over a dozen or more finished projects sitting in a drawer because I have no-one to give them too or because I haven’t had a chance to get them framed for myself).

This week I finished up what I consider one of my biggest projects. It wasn’t complicated, just large. I received this afghan from my mother a few Christmases ago and I finally had a chance to embroider something on it, for my sister Sally’s baby (due May 8).This afghan was 58″ by 60″. I feel really accomplished that I got it done for her in time. And she really appreciated it. That’s the best part of doing cross-stictch for me, having someone love the finished project.

For a long time I’ve been contemplating turning my hobby into a money making prospect. If someone saw a pattern/kit that they wanted done, and they had no desire/ability to do it themselves, I’d charge to do it. I figure a base price and add charges for size, difficulty, time and materials (if I had to buy them myself). Brad brought this up today as well. It’s not something that I would try to live on, just something to suppliment our income with. I need to do some research to find out more about how to go about setting up pricing, but I think this is really something that I want to pursue. Cross-stitching for commission. I like the sound of that.

GREAT Service

Quaker Steak and Lube restaurants ROCK!

When Brad and I discovered this place with its Tuesday night all you can eat wings, we fell in love. But tonight, they showed that they have truly great service.

We were seated quickly, attended wonderfully by our waitress and got our food very quickly, as always. But the service above and beyond came when the waitress came by to ask if Brad wanted a refill on his beer.

He said no, but commented that he’d like the mug it came in (a very tall thin thing) for his coffee in the morning. She joked that he’d have to buy it. He asked how much it was. She said she didn’t know but would go ask her boss. About five minutes later she came by and told us a price! Brad said he’d take it and she just added it to our bill, as simple as that! It was totally awesome!

So if you happen to have a Quaker Steak and Lube nearby, I highly recommend them. (There are restaurants here in OH, in PA, WV, IA, GA, FL and TN as far as I know.)

Obama Needs A Better Proofreader

Hahahahaha, I love it.

Someone on LJ just pointed out that in his speech, Obama said that 44 have taken the oath of office. Not true!!

It has been ADMINISTERED 44 times, but only 43 men have been President. Grover Cleveland was President twice, in NON-CONSECUTIVE TERMS. He’s only one man people!

Nothing against this historic and awesome day, but come on! Someone should have caught that before he went out on a world-wide stage and said it.

Inauguration Day

It is such an historical day today. As I sit here, watching all the coverage, I can’t help but take a moment to think of how far this country has come. And to know that I had a small part in bringing this day to fruition fills me with such…awe and joy.

My daughter is napping beside me, but I will be so proud to tell her and her brother that I was a part of this.I can say without reservation, I am proud to be an American citizen this day. To revel in the peaceful transition of power…it really is a heady moment.

I have said it to Brad and I will say it here, Obama is my generations’ JFK.

I am in tears now. That was so awesome.

My plan to take over the world is coming together! (NOT!)

My middle sister called me up yesterday. I got her hooked on Buffy! Mwhahahahahahaaha! We burned her the first 3 (?) seasons for Christmas and now she’s hooked. She’s coming over on Wednesday for the rest of the series.

I guess I have no excuse to keep putting off watching that season four episode I needed to for my writing purposes now.
