More Thoughts On 11th Doctor

Well now that it’s had some time to rattle around in my head, I think that the choice is a good one.
Yes my initial reaction was one of confusion, as I’m sure it was for many who are outside the UK, that was mostly because I had no idea who Matt Smith was. Then I realised, it doesn’t matter. If the Doctor Who people, most importantly Steven Moffatt, are happy with their choice, then I should be too.
A lot of reactions I am seeing from Who fans revolve around Smith’s age. Not just that he IS young but that he LOOKS young. But I think that can be a good thing. I’ve seen pictures of him and yes, he does look young. But he also has that odd, quirky look that endeared both Eccelston and Tennant to me. However I think the most important thing about Smith being young has to do with the Doctor and his regenerations.
I have read that Moffatt and company didn’t deliberately seek out a young Doctor. And that’s cool. But to me, it had to be playing somewhere deep in the back of their minds that the Doctor only has two regenerations left. Somewhere, sometime, long ago someone said that the Time Lords could regenerate, but only 12 times for a total of 13 incarnations. So that leaves two regenerations for the last of the Time Lords. The Master was killed off for good in Series Three and the only other immortal characters we have in the Who universe are Jenny, his daughter, and Captain Jack. So unless they come up with a reasonable and believable way to work around the limited regenerations, then it is good that Smith is younger because he can stick around for much longer, perhaps more than three seasons.
So, here I am waiting for 2010 to roll around (even though we just started 2009) so that I can see how Matt Smith handles being The Doctor.

Comic Con
Ok, so there are lots of people there and I’m semi-reading reports. Here are my reactions to a few things I’ve seen/heard.
Dr. Horrible sequel or Act 4? *FLAIL*
Hugh Jackman making a surprise appearance and bringing clips from the Wolverine movie? *FLAIL*
David Boreanaz doing a Bones panel? *FLAIL*
But….and this is for my SG-1 flisties and especially the J/D fangirls…..
Why did no one tell me that RICK and SHANKS would BE IN THE SAME ROOM TOGETHER? *FLAILFLAILFLAIL*
Where is the squee? Please tell me that you aren’t all miserable over the full on smooch Browder gave Shanks, are you? I wish I had money to build a time machine so I could go to Comic Con and be there for that panel. *sigh*

Surprise FORD!!!!! (John has never forgiven himself for leaving Ford behind, good foreshadowing for what’s to come.)
Rodney worried for John. John almost giving into his feelings. Ronon ignoring John. Poor Lorne having to deal with Rodney.
Duff beer! Simpsons reference FTW.
I do like that Carter and Caldwell are calling each other Sam and Stephen. I could buy them as a couple because a) it means no Sam/Jack and b) it makes Rodney uncomfortable.
I wanna know what Jennifer gave John so he’s not all wobbly on his legs.
Rodney delivering Teyla’s baby? OMG LOVE!!!!! There was nothing about that scene I didn’t love. (Though I must gripe a tad about them not dealing with the afterbirth, yes it’s gross, but it’s a part of it too.)
Okay, what was with not!zombie Kanann? Last time we saw him, he barely functioned, now he’s walking and talking and interacting with Teyla. Consistency writers, have some plz.
John plus baby equals Katy puddle of goo! (seriously my uterus did flips. Which is hard with a baby in there and such.)
Rodney going to go see Teyla with flowers? Love
That was a total Kaylee moment when Jennifer told John she was gonna mess with his insides.
Speaking of consistency, I thought Teyla’s father was Tegan? Doesn’t she introduce herself to Sumner and John in “Rising” as Teyla Emmagen, daugher of Tegan? If not, then I need to change some things in my bigbang story.
Poor Sam. I mean, I know Amanda decided to leave, so they kinda had to take command away from Sam, but still, it was a sad moment for her when Woolsey told her.

July 29th can't get here fast enough.
Um…help? *whimpers*
I should totally be working on my bigbang story, but the muse, she has fled. So I've been spending my time doing a lot of reading. A lot. And yesterday in a flurry of SGA Harlequin stories, I came across a John/Rodney version of “The Princess Bride”. Which happens to be my favorite movie. EVER. So someone please tell me I don't want to write a Jack/Daniel version of TPB. Please?
